Removal of officer 'occupation' - for information

From 18th November 2025 the requirement for company officers to provide Companies House with a business occupation will be removed and there will be no mechanism for an individual to update their occupation on the register. We have therefore taken the decision to remove officer ‘occupation’ from the REST API response and Streaming API event messages from 23rd October 2025.
Why? From this date the initial load of identity verification dates for current appointments to active companies (see ‘Officers’ and ‘Persons with significant control’ resource specification - Identity Verification update) will commence, which provides an opportunity to broadcast the removal of this data in officer streaming API events without the need to send addition, unnecessary messages.
We do not intend to publish streaming API events for resigned or inactive appointments (current appointments to dissolved companies) but future REST API responses for appointments of this nature will not contain an occupation data item.
This legislative change does not include managing officers of overseas entities (e.g. managing-officer, corporate-managing-officer) or managers of economic interest groupings (e.g. manager-of-an-eeig, corporate-manager-of-an-eeig) who will still be required to supply an occupation, and which we will continue to publish.
