Ew, wa, sc, ni, r, oc, so, nc?

What do EW, WA, SC, NI, R, OC, SO, NC mean ?? They are in FormSubmission-v2-11.xsd
Some appear obvious, but its not professional to make a guess.
So what do the refer to, and more to the point where are they defined ??

Sorry, don’t have an official answer. But based on Company numbers | CH Guide which I extracted from various documentation:

  • EW = England & Wales Company
  • WA ??
  • SC = Scottish Company
  • NI = Northern Ireland Company (post partition)
  • R = Northern Ireland Company (pre partition)
  • OC = Limited Liability Partnership for England & Wales
  • SO = Limited Liability Partnership for Scotland
  • NC = Limited Liability Partnership for Northern Ireland

I agree it would be good to get a full comprehensive official mapping, but maybe this will help you out in the meantime.

Thanks for that.
We would NEVER have guessed the “R” or “OC”.

For reference for others browsing here - I don’t know if any others would appear in FormSubmission-v2-11.xsd but the (now very old) official documentation on prefixes to Company Numbers appears e.g. within this document here:

That is missing quite a few more recent prefixes - which I think we covered in the conversation in thread here:

For what it’s worth the company prefixes don’t include EW and WA (Wales?) * as far as I’m aware. But the others are, with the “R” as “R0”.

  • Standard “England and Wales” companies just appear as an 8-digit number. Presumably because a simple number was the original form and / or for reasons of capacity (considerably more of these than other types I believe)?
