I am developing an independent web application using the Companies House public-data API.
The service allows users to search newly incorporated companies by date and SIC code and to monitor selected companies for changes to public-register information.
It uses public data only, links users back to Companies House evidence, caches results to reduce unnecessary API requests, and does not submit filings or imply endorsement by Companies House.
It is currently a small private pilot. Before making the service commercially available, I would appreciate clarification on three points:
Is this an acceptable commercial use of the Companies House public-data API?
Can a commercial service operate through a centrally managed API key, with the application controlling customer requests through caching, queuing and rate limiting?
If usage eventually exceeds the standard API allowance, is there a process for discussing increased capacity or an alternative Companies House data service?
I want to ensure the application is designed in accordance with Companies House requirements before making it publicly available.
