Search engine query

LS,

When I enter ‘Tesco’ in the Companies House web search engine, I get ‘Tesco PLC’ as first result. However, the subsequent results contain many more Tesco related legal entities. How does the search engine decide to give ‘Tesco PLC’ as first result? Is the search engine enriched with data that is not available in the csv downloads?

Hi,

This is because when we do the search we strip certain words (limited, plc etc). So TESCO PLC is the nearest match to TESCO as removal of PLC is an exact match. The rest are ‘near’ search results based on the input criteria.
