Rate limit increase request — from an academic researcher in dublin

I am a PhD researcher at Dublin City University Business School. My project requires retrieving filing history and persons-with-significant-control records for a large defined set of UK registered companies.

The total volume is approximately 2.5 million requests. At the default 600 per 5 minutes this takes around fifteen days of continuous running. The client is rate limited with exponential backoff, checkpointed and resumable, retrieves metadata only with no document requests, and runs from a single machine.

Would it be possible to raise the rate limit on my registered application? I understand increases to 1,200 per 5 minutes have been granted in other cases. The use is non-commercial academic research and the data will not be redistributed.

I’ve never heard of them going over the 1200 request limit for any reason. It’s not what the API is designed for. There is a free bulk data product for PSCs which would be much more suitable for this kind of project. More here, but I don’t think you can get filing history.

I’m not CH so the above isn’t an official answer, just a heads up in case you weren’t aware these existed.
