Permitted reuse of Companies House API data in VALQENT – AI summaries, translation and caching

Hello,

The Companies House Bulk Products team advised me to raise this question on the Companies House Developer Forum.

I am an individual developer based in Thailand building VALQENT, a free, password-protected market research and education website for no more than 100 invited users.

VALQENT would use the Companies House Public Data API to retrieve selected publicly available UK company information, including:

  • Company profile and status

  • Filing-history metadata

  • Selected accounts and financial information

  • Officers and persons with significant control, where appropriate

  • Links to the original Companies House records and filing documents

VALQENT would display selected factual information and create its own charts, calculated financial ratios, analytical explanations, AI-generated summaries and automatic translations. It would not offer raw API access, bulk-data downloads, API pass-through access, resale of Companies House datasets or complete mirrors of filing archives.

Before enabling this integration, I would appreciate clarification on the following points:

  1. May Companies House Public Data API information be displayed on a free, password-protected website serving up to 100 authenticated external users?

  2. May VALQENT calculate and display derived information such as financial ratios, trends, comparisons, risk indicators and analytical explanations from the API data?

  3. May the information and VALQENT-generated summaries be automatically translated into Thai, English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean?

  4. May AI-generated summaries be created from eligible API data, provided that they are clearly identified as VALQENT-generated content and not as official Companies House summaries or advice?

  5. May API responses and selected historical observations be cached or stored server-side for charts, comparisons and analysis? If so, are there any refresh, deletion or maximum-retention requirements?

  6. What attribution wording should be displayed? Would the following be sufficient?

“Source: Companies House. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence.”

Each company page would also link to the corresponding original Companies House record.

  1. Are any API fields, filing-document contents, images or third-party materials excluded from reuse, translation or AI processing?

  2. Are there additional restrictions concerning officers, persons with significant control or other personal data, even when that information is publicly available through the API?

  3. Are there any additional permissions, fees, reporting requirements or licences for this use case?

Could a Companies House representative please confirm the permitted reuse of Companies House API data for VALQENT, particularly regarding AI-generated summaries, automatic translation, derived analytics, attribution and server-side caching?

VALQENT is a free, password-protected research website operated by an individual developer and limited to no more than 100 invited users. It does not provide raw API access or bulk-data downloads.

A brief confirmation or referral to the appropriate policy team would be greatly appreciated.
