We’re looking to get insolvency data - possibly via the Insolvency API, however if there’s a bulk file we’d start from that
We’re familiar with the setup to subscribe for the streaming data so we’re fine for ongoing data, but for historic data is there a bulk file or way to establish which CRN will have any insolvency information rather than trying them all? As most companies will have no data, it seems a shame to loop around 5,000,000 times when there’s only going to be a fraction who have any data
I recently contacted StatBooks and asked them about their bulk offering for dissolutions, this was their response if it’s of any use to you:
Companies House have recorded 8,270,119 Dissolutions between 01-01-2010 and 01-09- We hold 5,918,608 that were drawn from their Dissolved Database three years ago and a further 5,301, 628 Dissolved by day to day events; most of this dataset shows the Dissolution reason. We anticipate a merge of the two to yield a little more than 8.27 million because we know we have data that was not digitised though most of it predates 2010.
Our Dissolved Archive dataset covers:
Company number
Company name at dissolution
Incorporation date
Dissolution date
Company status only shows as D (Dissolved)
Registered office address at dissolution
Company type and jurisdiction
Dissolution category, where available
Reinstatement history is not included, and subsequent dissolution events overwrite earlier the original; we do not maintain a dissolution history -just the latest such event.
Your specific questions
- Whether records are available for all UK jurisdictions from January 2010 onwards. Yes
- Whether the dataset is complete, or whether there are known coverage limitations. Not absolutely but we believe marginally more complete than Companies House which is known to be mathematically short of perfect
- Whether struck-off, voluntarily dissolved, compulsorily dissolved, liquidated. All included. Converted/closed companies are not dissolved per se and NOT included but are available.
- Whether you can provide a sample file and data dictionary. Yes, as a 20 row sample.
- The available delivery formats, such as CSV, FTP or SFTP. Files are .csv format and available by SFTP.
- The cost, licensing terms and expected delivery timescale for a bulk extract. £90.00 per million records, or part thereof, plus VAT for bulk; annual subscription also available for updates available at £25.00 per month plus VAT. Delivery as raw data within 48 hours of payment
- Whether historic dissolution events are preserved where a company was reinstated and later dissolved again. No – this in the public Filing History but tedious to extract!
I’ve collected insolvency events from the streaming API since 2024 and have compiled them into a bulk json file available (free) on my website.
This only includes companies which have had an insolvency update in the last 2 years, but should integrate nicely with your streaming ingest as its the same data format.
