I’ve been tasked with proposing a solution for accessing Companies house data. Obviously I have 2 options:- API or XML Gateway.
XML Gateway is a paid for service though the cost is low. However, it may rise substantially if documents are ordered. And it’s a stable and there’s no on-going development.
Using the API is free, as are the documents. However, it is in beta mode so we are worried about constantly updating our code.
From what I’ve read, it appears all the functionality in XML Gateway is in the API and is in the current API version. I don’t think we’re fussed about any advanced options. Basically, we’re a mortgage company and what we want to do, on a case by case basis, is access the company and related data and store it locally.
What do you guys suggest to use and what are your experiences of using the API and/or the Gateway?

Happy to chime in on this, but I think you’re looking for community opinion, which would be interesting to hear anyway, so I’ll hang fire with my advice…

I’m currently using XMLGateway but, as I understand it, this will eventually be phased out in favour of the new API.
